Discover the inspiring story of a multi-generational coffee company, born from tragedy and driven by a mission to brew change for mental health – one cup at a time.
As a local mental health charity we can only do what we do because of those like Lindsay and Lyall Coffee. We are proud to recognise Lyall Coffee as a charity partner of Tyneside and Northumberland Mind, raising mental health awareness and essential funding for our local mental health services, with coffee that cares.

Lyall Coffee was born out of hardship, resilience, and a simple but powerful truth: a cup of coffee can mean so much more than just a drink.
In 2020, when life felt overwhelming and uncertain, Lindsay – a lifelong coffee lover and barista of over ten years – found herself facing some of her darkest days. Having travelled the world and discovered unique blends and brewing traditions, she had always understood the craft of coffee. But it wasn’t until this period of personal struggle that she discovered the emotional connection a cuppa can carry.
When Lindsay’s father was terminally ill, the ritual of making and sharing a coffee became something sacred. For just a few quiet minutes, the chaos of illness and the weight of reality could pause. In that small, steaming cup, there was a breath, a moment of peace – a reminder that even in the darkest times, everything could feel “okay” for a while.
As the years unfolded, the challenges did not ease. In 2023, tragedy struck again as Lindsay lost close friends to suicide. It was a raw, painful reminder of how suddenly mental health struggles can enter our lives and how devastating the impact can be. In those moments, Lindsay experienced first hand the depths that mental health can take you to, and she realised she couldn’t face it alone.
It was during this period that Lindsay reached out to Mind for professional support. Their guidance, care, and community became a lifeline; a safe place to talk, to breathe, to be heard. This experience reshaped her understanding of mental health and ignited a determination to ensure others could access the same help when they needed it most.
Out of this journey, Lyall Coffee was created … not just as a business, but as a family, a movement, and a promise. Every bag of coffee sold carries with it Lindsay’s story and the hope of making someone else’s day a little lighter. That’s why from the very beginning, Lyall Coffee committed to giving back. A proportion of every sale goes directly to Tyneside and Northumberland Mind, a charity working tirelessly to break down stigma, provide vital services, and create a community where talking about mental health is not just accepted, but encouraged.

And at its heart, Lyall Coffee is proudly family-run. From marketing to design, production to service, it’s all hands on deck with three generations of the Lyall family working side by side to bring the vision to life.
What started as one woman’s coping mechanism has grown into a family mission, built on love, support, and determination. When you choose Lyall Coffee, you’re not just supporting a small business, you’re supporting a family pouring their hearts into every bag, every cup, every sip.
Because coffee isn’t just coffee. It’s the way we ask, “Are you okay? Shall I put the kettle on?” It’s the way we connect, show care, and create a moment of calm in a noisy world.
At Lyall Coffee, our mantra is simple but powerful:
“Every drop, every sip provides time and makes a difference to someone’s mental health.”
When you choose Lyall Coffee, you’re not just buying a product, you’re becoming part of our family, part of a story that honours the past and invests in a kinder, stronger future. You’re sharing in a cup that comforts, connects, and gives back.
This is more than business. This is love, loss, resilience, and community in a cup.
This is Lyall Coffee.
