We offer a dedicated service to support families experiencing a mental health need within the home who reside in the North Northumberland area.
We work with families living in North Northumberland where there is a mental health need, helping each person understand their situation and implement a support plan to nurture a happier, healthier home.
When poor mental health is experienced in the home it will often impact the whole family. It’s important that families have the knowledge, skills and confidence to share their experiences, and improve their mental health and resilience. We give every person in the household the tools to achieve a mentally healthier mind.
This past year the Supporting Families Programme empowered 150 people. This involved removing stigma and educating people about mental health and how to navigate the challenges it can have to the person and the extended family. Our service works alongside you and your family members, helping each person find the words to explain how they’re feeling, avoid getting caught up in any diagnosis and better support one another.

The Supporting Families Programme has helped families build confidence, learn and implement coping strategies, improve their parenting skills, and challenge the isolating and sometimes destructive outcomes mental ill-health can have to a home. We work with the whole family to understand your situation, enhance your knowledge of mental health, teach you the tools to provide self-support and share information about the services available to you should you need them. We are here for the whole family and will work with you to build a healthier, happier home.
Supporting Families Project Partner[I] worked with a dad in a rural location who was isolated and very reluctant to work with any professionals. After the initial contact…dad became more confident…I would often see him smiling which I had never witnessed. MIND gave him a voice again and a purpose in life.
Supporting Families Project PartnerHaving the service within our locality is a lifeline. We are a rural community covering 802 square miles with poor travel links so knowing there are options to support families with their mental health and who can provide home visits if necessary is a huge positive in achieving positive outcomes.
