In July Tyneside and Northumberland Mind’s Berwick Safe Space group created personalised wellness plans as part of a selfcare exercise. Wellness plans allow us to focus on the positive things we can do to maintain our wellbeing because when life gets busy or overwhelming it’s easy to forget about prioritising selfcare.
Wellness Plans, also described as Safety Plans, can act as a positive reminder to take time for our mental health. These plans are individual to the person and can include lot’s of healthy coping strategies that the person writing them finds positive and beneficial to their wellbeing.
Wellness plans can be best described as a framework for encouraging good behaviours that help us take better care of our health. They look at fitness, nutrition, mental health and your current lifestyle. They help you take a look at things in a manageable way, evaluate your habits and set personalised healthy goals. A good wellness plan can empower people to make informed choices that help you develop everyday routines for better health.
We’ve attached a personal wellness plan template and also an example completed one so you can give it a go. If you’re feeling creative you could even create your own, with pictures and art and anything else that inspires you. And If you find yourself stuck for ideas on what to include we encourage you to take a look at other content on the Selfcare and Wellbeing Hub.
Are you interested in attending our Berwick Safe Space group? The Wellness Plan is just one activity we take our members through step-by-step to encourage better mental health. Safe Spaces groups are made up of facilitated group discussion, workshops and activities to help you learn how to effectively manage your mental health and get more control over your life. It will give you the opportunity to talk openly and discuss the issues that are important to you without fear of judgment.
