Youth Speak is a young persons mental health awareness group in the North East and they are launching a new campaign this month to flood social media with positivity!
One in ten children under 15 suffer from a mental illness and this increases as they go through adolescence. Young people are exposed to social media every day and with unhealthy messages littered throughout, its no wonder it can be a contributor to mental health issues.
Youth Speak want people to pass positive messages and good advice around Facebook and twitter in order to lower the stigma surrounding mental health in young people. The idea is of writing a short message of advice on a banana and taking a selfie!
They are creating a feature length film documenting their campaign, aswell as releasing a series of short films of young people sharing their mental health stories.
This is our focus for the month; we want to help splash social media with positive messages for a change in hope to help lift the stigma surrounding mental health!
