We read an interesting article last week about a new project called the The Creative Madness in Song project which is being run by charity Song in the City with The Maudsley Charity, part of the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust.
The project aims to promote young composers and people with experience of mental illness by using classical song to de-stigmatise the issue. This musical awareness project involves composers working with texts written by people with experience of conditions such as schizophrenia and depression; the songs are performed by classically-trained singers and pianists.
Stigma in Mental Health is a pressing issue and one that is reported to us all too often and with 1 in 4 people experiencing a Mental Health issue sometime in their lifetime we want to make mental health something we aren't afraid to talk about in our workplace, homes, and schools.
Combating Stigma is a long process but the more we talk about Mental Health the more we wil be able to challenge the negative attitude there is towards it.
