• Have you been through a bereavement and feel like you need some support? Do you think you would benefit from talking with other people who have lost a loved one?
We are now offering a free 10-week course around bereavement; helping you to understand and cope with your loss. We know how hard it is to lose someone that you love, and trying to understand all your emotions by yourself can be very confusing.
We want to help you understand what you may go through, give you some time to talk to others and give you some strategies to help you cope with your loss. While grief is unique, talking to others who are grieving can help to take some of the isolation out of your grief experience. It doesn’t matter if you were bereaved a month ago or 10 years ago; grief has no time limit.

The group will be held at the YMCA in North Shields on Mondays, 1-3pm starting from the 26th June.

For more information or if you are interested in attending the course please contact Aimee Perry on or 01912828130.

  • Who is the course for?

The course is for people aged 18+ who live in Gateshead, with mild to moderate mental health problems, diagnosed or not.  The course is for those who want to learn ways to move forward. The expectation is that people will attend the vast majority of the sessions offered.

    What happens on the course?

We offer a short 10 week course, which covers a wide range of thinking styles, as well as some practical techniques that you can use to help yourself feel good and function well. The techniques can be tailored by you to meet your own needs.
Topics covered on the course will include:

    • Understanding the brain
    • Self-esteem and confidence
    • Coping with anxiety
    • Coping with depression
    • Building resilience
    • Addictive behaviours

  • Tyneside and Northumberland Mind are delighted to have been awarded a grant of £1996.35 from Big Local Central Jarrow’s New Ideas Fund. The grant is for our Safe Space service in Jarrow and will enable us to continue to run our group which provides essential help and support to people living in the local community who are experiencing difficulties with their mental health and emotional wellbeing.

Safe Space is aimed at people who have limited social networks or feel alone and isolated because of their mental ill health. The group can offer an opportunity to meet new people with shared mental health experiences in an informal and safe environment.

Central to our group will be the delivery of a range of activities that will improve people’s health and wellbeing and enable them to build practical coping skills.
