  • We are SO PROUD of everyone who takes the time to raise awareness, and money, to help people who suffer with mental illness and want to say a MASSIVE thank you to 'JessFest' who have raised over 6K for Tyneside and Northumberland Mind.

Jess Cameron who was on track to rebuild her world after suffering from depression and trying to take her own life after jumping from a multi storey carpark, passed away in August last year. After spending six months in hospital, being bedbound at home and undergoing a string of operations to rebuild the bones in her legs, she was ready to go home and start her life again. Jess died after falling and hitting her head which caused a swelling on her brain, starving it of oxygen.

Now her friends are on a drive to raise money for Tyneside and Northumberland Mind whilst highlighting the need for more support for people with mental health issues such as depression. We want to thank all those involved in fundraising for us, we couldn't give the support we do without your help.

  • We have applied for £10,000 to assist our youth team and provide the young people who are members of that group with meaningful activities. Our youth projects are constantly short of funds, so any additional votes could make a significant difference to our ultimate success.

    About the project

We want to provide bespoke supported journeys for young adults, helping them move forward into a better future. Working individually with each young person to understand their specific needs and help them overcome their personal barriers to aid positive wellbeing, e.g. providing training in mental health or gaining qualifications to get back into work. The young adults we target will be hard to reach and will suffer from multiple complex barriers, such as mental health difficulties, unemployment, poverty, lack of qualifications, autism, learning difficulties, etc.

Young adults want to move forward, but due to mental health difficulties and lack of qualifications or skills feel unable to. There are no other services in our area that provide this total package. This project will help to provide relevant training, a route to apprenticeships, learning about their own mental health and how to get the right kind of support.

Tyneside and Northumberland Mind would host a Young Adults Personal Development Group. This would be for between 10 to 12 young adults aged 16-24. The rolling programme would include:
    • Introduction to the programme and its benefits
    • The two truths and one false game
    • What the Youth Coach/Leader is able to offer the participants on the programme
    • What the participants would like to do
    • What the participants would like to get from the programme
    • Ideas for future weeks/programme.
